KILGORE — East Texas snapped a four-game losing streak with a 7-2 victory against Acadiana in Texas College League action Friday night at Driller Park.
The defending league champion Pump Jacks, who avoided matching their longest skid of the season, scored five runs during the sixth inning to pull away for the comfortable victory.
East Texas (7-12) plays host to Woodlands at 7:05 p.m. Saturday. The teams then play a doubleheader Sunday at Driller.
Acadiana (8-11) won the two-game series opener Thursday.
Slugger Mark Mathias (Cal Poly San Luis Obispo) smashed a solo home run during the fifth for East Texas’ first run. The Pump Jacks then erupted for five runs during the sixth, sending seven batters to the plate.
The Pump Jacks scored against three Cane Cutter pitchers in the sixth, producing the runs on four hits and chasing starting pitcher Kyle Cetodal of Southeastern Louisiana.
Providing the RBIs were North Central Texas College’s Garrett McMullen (RBI double) and Arkansas-Little Rock’s Ryan Hope (two-RBI single). The Pump Jacks also scored two runs on wild pitches by Acadiana reliever Jeff Oracion, a Missouri Tigers product who also hit two batters and never found his control.
East Texas’ big inning followed Mathias’ homer, a solo shot to left during the fifth.
The Pump Jacks also moved a run across on a passed ball during the eighth, scoring Texas Tech’s Devon Conley.
