Pump Jacks Return From Break With Win

KILGORE — The East Texas Pump Jacks returned from the All-Star break with a 2-1 win against the Brazos Valley Bombers in Texas Collegiate League baseball action Tuesday at Driller Park.

Pump Jacks scored the go-ahead run in the fifth inning to improve to 24-7 on the season.



East Texas pitcher Mike Hager allowed three hits and struck out 12 in eighth innings of work to improve to 4-1 on the season.

Pump Jacks closer Jason Jester earned his 13th save of the season.

Adams Golf Pro-Am

Monday At Twin Lakes GC

CANTON — The Adams Golf Pro-Am is scheduled for Monday at Twin Lake Golf Course. Shotgun start is 8 a.m.

Cost is $300 per team (three players per team). All teams will be paired with an Adams Golf Tour pro. There is a shamble format.

‘True Orange’ Publisher To Speak At Texas Exes Event in Tyler

Jerry Scarbrough, publisher of True Orange, a newsletter covering The University of Texas at Austin sports, will be the featured speaker at a Tyler-Smith County Texas Exes event on July 19 at Hollytree Country Club.

The event is a send-off party for students attending UT and a fundraiser for the local Texas Exes scholarship fund.

The chapter will be honoring Jimmy and Noni Smith as Outstanding Texas Exes.

Scarbrough, a 1961 Texas graduate, has been publishing True Orange since 1990 and has subscribers in 48 states and 15 countries, including Japan, Russia and China. Before entering the field of sports journalism, Scarbrough and his wife, Nancy, owned a newspaper in Columbus from 1983-90. Prior to that, he was a political and investigative reporter for the Associated Press in Oklahoma City. While at UT, Scarbrough was the sports editor for the Daily Texan, and also worked in the sports information department.

Cocktail hour (complimentary wine and beer) at the HTCC main dining room, begins at 6 p.m., dinner opens at 6:45 p.m. with the program beginning at 7 p.m.

Troup Volleyball Camp July 16-19

TROUP — The Troup Volleyball Camp is July 16-19 at the Troup High School gym.

Times include: 8 to 10 a.m. for incoming sixth throught eighth grade; and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for ninth through 12th grade.

Cost is $25. Two-a-days begin at 6 a.m. on Aug. 6.
