Patriots running at regionals in Atlanta

The UT Tyler cross team is competing in the NCAA Division III South/Southeast Cross Country Regional on Saturday in Atlanta.

Emory University is hosting the event. The men’s 8K race will be held at the Nash Battlefield Farm.



The Patriot men won the American Southwest Conference championship two weeks ago in Clinton, Miss., to earn a berth in the regionals.

In 2011, the Patriots finished in seventh at the NCAA regionals.

UT Tyler is led by Nick Huff, a junior from Holly Lake Ranch and a graduate of Harmony High School.

The Patriots feature one senior, Will Krogman, and a host of juniors led by Huff and ASC Newcomer of the Year Jason Hamilton. Krogman is from Mesquite and Hamilton is from Dallardsville.

The 2012 field will feature 28 teams made up of 210 individual runners beginning at 9 a.m. Central time with the women following at 10 a.m.

On the women’s side, senior Baylee Talaska, of San Antonio, will be the lone representative for the Patriots in the women’s 6K race. Talaska finished in 13th at the ASC Championship at the end of October.

The national championship meet is Nov. 17 in Terre Haute, Ind.
