Karsen Luther, formerly of Tyler, competes in MLB Junior Home Run Derby

Karsen Luther, 14, a former Tyler resident who now lives in Conroe, recently competed in in the national finals for the Major League Baseball Junior Home Run Derby at Progressive Field in Cleveland.

Luther won the local qualifier in Conroe and the regional qualifier in Dallas to advance to Cleveland and compete during the week of the MLB All-Star festivities. He was one of 10 national finalist who made the event. He was also able to attend several activities during the week including appearances at MLB Fan Fest and the celebrity softball game.



Luther also attended Sunday’s Futures Game and is scheduled to take in the MLB Home Run Derby on Monday.

Luther finished in fifth place in Cleveland with seven home runs.

Attending the event with Karsen were his parents Peyton Luther and Brandi Luther, both formerly of Tyler. Peyton was a former standout and captain of the John Tyler baseball team. Brandi is also a JT alum.
