Hanna Alberto wins 98th Women’s Texas Amateur

DALLAS — Hanna Alberto of Kingwood captured the 98th Women’s Texas Amateur on Friday at Bent Tree Country Club.
The Sam Houston State University senior scored a 1-up victory over SMU senior Faith Summers of San Antonio in the championship match.
Alberto’s World Amateur Golf Ranking is 50th, the highest among competitors at the Dallas event.
Alberto won the championship with a par on the 18th hole.
“It means a lot to win this great tournament,” said Alberto, who earlier this year played in the inaugural Augusta National Women’s Amateur. “My friends and family were here and watching. It was a really close match, and I’m glad everything turned out well.”
In the first flight, Lauren Mason, of Frisco, defeated Hanna Harrison, of Plano, 5 and 4. In the second flight, Cameron Newhouse, of Montgomery, defeated Janane Tan, of Coppell, 6 and 5. In the third flight, Launa Wilson, of Lantana, defeated Jennifer Hoyt, of Horseshoe Bay, 5 and 4.
In the fourth flight, Caitlyn Lindell, of Grand Prairie, defeated Nancy Beck, of Dallas, 5 and 4. In the fifth flight, Kelli Ann Dugan, of San Antonio, defeated Cindy Gilkeson, of Sugar Land, 6 and 5. In the sixth flight, Ryleigh McClain, of Kingwood, defeated Sherri Buster, of Westlake, 1 up. In the seventh flight, Kristin Hawk, of Heath, defeated Lindsey Mitchell, of Montgomery, 4 and 3.
