The Lady Crusaders chalked up win No. 15 on the season, cruising by the Lady Cougars in commanding fashion.

Merrimack College-bound Obach worked her magic on the floor once again with seven steals, six assists and a game-high 21 points in the runaway win.

One Obach basket in the first quarter built a 13-2 first quarter lead early on.

Another Obach steal and layup upped the Gorman bulge to 39-18 with 6:25 on the third-quarter clock.

The senior point guard also helped Gorman gain a 30-point lead with her last steal and jumper for a 48-18 cushion at the 5:20 mark.

From there, Brooke Lee added eight of her 10 points in the second half, knocking down two treys.

Allie Buzbee added to the first half dominance with two 3-pointers, finishing with 16-points.

Susannah Williams added 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for a double-double.

Grace, trailing 32-18 at halftime, scored only five points the final two periods for the big 62-23 final score.

Catherine Rook led Grace with seven points, Bethany Kimmey added in six points and while Megan Raborar totaled out with five points in the setback.

The Lady Cougars (6-10) will next play Henderson at home next Friday night with a 7 p.m. tipoff scheduled.

Gorman (15-2) will take a break before playing in the Macy Chenevert Patriot Holiday Tournament. The Lady Crusaders drew a first round bye in the tournament, which begins Dec. 27.

BOYS

Ashworth started the scoring with a 3-pointer and added on 30 more points to finish with a game-high 33 points as the Crusaders made a second half comeback for the 58-55 win.

Grace Community came out raining 3-point shots with Blake Johnson answering the opening Ashworth trey with three straight bombs for a 9-8 lead early on.

An Ashworth bucket beat the buzzer at the end of the first quarter for his 17th point to make it 23-22 Gorman.

Grace forced numerous turnovers and denied Ashworth the ball as the Cougars outscored Gorman 14-5 in the second period to gain a 36-28 lead at the half.

TKG did not score a basket in the period until Brandon Lackner finally sunk a lay-in at the 1:04 mark.

Gorman went to the full-court press after the intermission and it paid dividends as the Crusaders chipped away at the lead while holding the Cougars to seven points and cut the Grace lead to 43-39 with one quarter left.

Ashworth again took over for Gorman, scoring 12 points in the final period.

Gorman point guard Sean Goforth built a four-point Gorman cushion by sinking a 3-pointer for a 52-48 Crusader lead at the 3:42 mark. The four-point bulge played out for the rest of the game.

Goforth finished with 11 points and teammate Brandon Lackner added 10-points for the Crusaders.

Trevor Gunter scored 16 points to pace the Cougars while teammate Verlo Levels scored five of his 14 points in the final period, but it was too little too late.

Andrew Melhart stepped in off the bench to score eight of his 11 points in the second quarter to pace the Grace pull-away before the halftime break.

Gorman (8-7) will host Sulphur Springs next Friday night in non-district play at Haddad Gymnasium with a 7 p.m. tipoff slated.

Grace Community (8-5) will take a brief break before playing Brook Hill in the first round of the Wagstaff Holiday Basketball Classic.
