No. 1 LSU-Shreveport defeats Texas College, 42-4

SHREVEPORT, La. — Texas College dropped a 42-4 decision to No. 1 LSU-Shreveport on Sunday.

It set a new single-game record for runs scored for the Pilots.


The offense began in the bottom of the first when Ryan Davenport slugged the first pitch thrown by Edwin Zuniga over the left field wall to make it 1-0. Austin Gomm and DJ Walker then both recorded RBI singles, followed by a three-run homer from Ian Montz. Two more RBI singles from Davenport and Gomm made it 11-0. A Montz groundout, single from Anthony Swenda, and a two-run double from Josh Gibson were all part of a 16-run first inning.

LSU-Shreveport extended its lead to 19-0 after the second inning.

In the top of the third inning, Noah Codina homered to get the Steers first run on the board, and then a second run scored on a wild pitch, making it 19-2.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Pilots scored 15 more off of hit-by-pitches to Jackson Syring and Bula White, walks to Nathaniel de la Cruz and Jose Sallorin, a Tamden Webb-Tate sacrifice fly, singles from Carlos Vega and Christian Hobbs, then a Syring three-run double, a three-run home run from de la Cruz, then finally a walk by Vega.

LSU-Shreveport scored eight more runs in the bottom of the sixth, including a three-run home run from White, to extend the lead and runs scored record to 42-2.

In the top of the seventh, the Steers brought in two more runs on a Jason Fuentes groundout and a wild pitch after an Alex Font strikeout to make the score 42-4.

Cobe Reeves got the start and earned the win, going four innings giving up one earned run and an unearned run on two hits and striking out nine while walking one. The loss went to Texas College starter Edwin Zuniga as he was unable to record an out, giving up 11 earned runs on seven hits and walking four.

Fifteen Pilots (33-0) recorded a hit and 16 reached base. Nine Pilots recorded multiple hits. Huspen and Gibson led the way with three hits each. Syring led the RBI total with five.

For Texas College, Zerrick Jones recorded two hits and Codina had the home run.

LSU-Shreveport also defeated Texas College 37-0 and 15-0 in the series.

Former Tyler Legacy High School standout Angel Rodriguez had two walks and two runs scored on Sunday for LSU-Shreveport. In the 37-0 win, Rodriguez had two RBIs and four runs. Rodriguez is hitting .328 this season with four home runs, 20 RBIs and 14 runs.

It was the seventh straight loss for Texas College (2-27) since a 10-5 win over Jarvis Christian University on March 15.

The Steers have two wins this season after going 0-30 in 2024, 0-24-1 in 2023 and 0-36 in 2022.

Texas College will play at LSU-Alexandria on April 4-5 before hosting Louisiana Christian on April 25-26 to close the season.
