Lufkin falls to Parkway

SHREVEPORT, La. – The Lufkin Panthers and Bossier City (Louisiana) Parkway Panthers put on a show on Saturday in the Sixth Annual Battle on the Border Showcase at Independence Stadium.

Parkway outlasted Lufkin 69-54 in a game that featured more than 1,400 combined yards for the squads.



Both quarterbacks threw for more than 300 yards.

Lufkin QB Kordell Rodgers hit on 25 of 35 pass attempts for 350 yards and three touchdowns – 26 and 36 to Dhailon Phillips and 10 to Javante Ellington. Rodgers also rushed for two TDs on runs of 3 and 1 yards.

Phillips had eight catches for 170 yards.

Lufkin running back Kahlil Brown rushed for 234 yards on 34 carries. He scored on runs of 48, 19 and 3 yards.

Parkway junior quarterback Justin Rogers connected on 23 of 35 attempts for 378 yards and five touchdowns.

Robert McKnight, a University of Texas at San Antonio pledge, rushed for 225 yards on 11 carries. He scored on a 99-yard in the second quarter and a 46-yard dash in the third. He added the final TD, a 26-yard gallop in the fourth.

Lufkin (2-1) returns home on Friday to face Prepa Tec of Monterrey, Mexico. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m.
