LONGVIEW — Robert E. Lee split their two games Friday at the Chick-Fil-A Lady Lobo Classic. The Lady Raiders began by losing 2-0 to Pine Tree in the morning before coming back later in the afternoon and defeating Whitehouse, 1-0.
The split gives REL a 7-3 record for the season.
In the first match, Pine Tree jumped out on top and added its second in the final seconds when REL was caught pushing up to try and equalize.
Against Whitehouse, Lee senior Brooke Johnston scored the lone goal of the game on a pass from Kendall Bullock.
“We didn’t play particularly well today. I don’t know what was going on, but it was just one of those days,” said Lee coach Chris Woodard. “We didn’t string a lot of passes together. Hopefully we play better (on Saturday).
Lee will close out the Lady Lobo Classic at 2 p.m. against Plano at Longview Soccer Complex.
Raiders held to scoreless draw at Whitehouse
WHITEHOUSE — Robert E. Lee and Whitehouse battled to a scoreless draw Friday at Wildcat Stadium.
Lee goalkeeper Henry Plancarte gets the clean sheet for REL, which record now sits at 4-3-1.
“We struggled in the first half; we were a mess,” said Lee coach Marty Germany. “We came out and played better in the second half, but Whitehouse did a good job defending and closing us down and taking away space. We couldn’t break them down (for the goal).”
The Red Raiders will be at home on Tuesday against Pine Tree with kickoff slated for 7 p.m. at Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium.
In the junior varsity game, Lee defeated Whitehouse 1-0 on a goal from Keegan McCombie.
