Published 11:46 pm Tuesday, March 31, 2015
GARLAND — Robert E. Lee can’t afford to lose as the Red Raiders are part of a four-way tie for first place in District 11-6A.
All four teams — Rockwall, Rowlett, Sachse and Lee —began the day at 3-1.
Lee did its part to stay on top, defeating North Garland 13-0 in six innings Tuesday afternoon.
The Red Raiders (9-5) moved to 4-1, but the other three teams also won to keep the four-way tie.
Lee has a chance to break that up a bit Thursday with a home game against Rockwall at 7:30 p.m. at Mike Carter Field.
“We wanted to make sure we came out and played a good baseball game, and we were able to do that today,” Lee coach David Howard said. “Henry (Smith) pitched well and kept them off the board. Now we turn to Thursday against Rockwall.”
Lee scored four runs in the first inning, highlighted by RBI singles from catcher Marc Schwartz (2 for 4, double) and Jacob Kuehn.
Lee’s Jakob Romines went 2 for 2 with a two-run double, with Nick Goodwin delivering a solo home run.
