Volleyball Roundup: John Tyler wins ninth straight match, Tyler Lee wins on road

John Tyler 3, Nacogdoches 0

The John Tyler Lady Lions improved to 2-0 in District 16-5A volleyball by sweeping Nacogdoches on Tuesday at the Lions Den.



JT (23-9) won its ninth straight match 25-13, 25-10, 25-13.

Leaders for the Lady Lions were: Symone Morris (10 serves, 16 kills, 17 receptions, 1 block, 7 digs), Makia Moon (16 serves, 1 ace, 8 kills, 2 digs), Michiah McFarland (10 serves, 2 kills, 23 assists, 5 digs), Eriana Valle (6 serves, 13 receptions, 9 digs), Alexy Valle (5 serves, 5 receptions, 5 kills) and Treasure Coleman (10 serves, 1 kill, 2 digs, 3 receptions, 1 block).

JT also won the JV (25-20, 25-17), Freshman A (25-22, 26-24) and Freshman B (24-26, 26-24, 25-14) matches.

The Lady Lions hit the road for their next two matches, Friday at Lufkin and Sept. 24 at Hallsville. JT’s next home match is Sept. 27 against Pine Tree.

Nacogdoches falls to 0-2 in district and the Lady Dragons are scheduled to host Marshall on Friday.

Tyler Lee 3, North Mesquite 2

MESQUITE — Tyler Lee battled back from a 2-0 deficit to defeat North Mesquite 3-2 (23-25, 22-25, 25-22, 25-21, 15-10) in District 11-6A action on Tuesday.

Semira Udosen had 22 kills and two blocks. Je’Myiia Johnson had 12 kills and three blocks.

Claire Trosclair had 10 kills, 20 digs and five aces. I’Onna Jones had eight kills and four blocks, and Taliyah Mumphrey added four kills and two blocks.

Anasha Martin had 43 digs. Anna Stone and Ja’Mia Hutton had 12 digs each, and Catherine Wise contributed 11 digs.

Lee (17-15) will host Longview at 6 p.m. Friday.

Whitehouse 3, Jacksonville 0

WHITEHOUSE — Whitehouse improved to 2-0 in District 16-5A volleyball with a 3-0 win over Jacksonville on Tuesday at C.L. Nix Wildcat Arena.

The LadyCats (22-8) won 25-6, 25-14, 25-14.

Some standouts for the Whitehouse varsity include: Briana Brown (13 kills, 15 digs), Kate Idrogo (10 kills, 11 digs), Ryann Foster (31 assists, 12 digs, 3 aces), Ashlee Taylor (3 aces), Aja Williams (2 blocks) and Asja Lewis (2 blocks).

Whitehouse also won the JV match (25-20, 25-11) and the Ninth A match (25-4, 25-9). Grace 9A defeated Whitehouse 9B (25-12, 25-15).

Whitehouse is scheduled to play Pine Tree in Longview at 4:30 p.m. Friday. Jacksonville (0-2) plays at Hallsville Friday.

Tyler All Saints 3, Dallas Cristo Rey 0

The All Saints Lady Trojans opened District 3-4A volleyball play with a 3-0 win over Dallas Cristo Rey on Tuesday at Brookshire Gym.

The Lady Trojans won 25-12, 25-20, 25-19.

Standouts for All Saints were Olivia Young, Madeline Perkins and Sarah Huckabee.

All Saints at Arlington Grace Prep on Tuesday.

Harmony 3, Winona 0

WINONA — The Harmony Lady Eagles swept the Winona LadyCats 3-0 in a District 16-3A volleyball match on Tuesday.

Harmony won 25-7, 25-6, 25-8.

Notable players for the Lady Eagles were: Jenci Seahorn (7 kills, 1 block, 1 Ace), McKinzee Settles (5 kills, 2 blocks, 2 Aces), Spencer Watkins (3 kills), Kaylee Clemens (5 kills), Aleah Daily (12 assists), Delaynie Nash (7 assists, 2 Aces, 3 digs), Madi Rhame (3 digs, 2 aces) and Raylee Willie (2 digs).

Harmony (2-0) is scheduled to host White Oak at 4:30 p.m. Friday, while Winona (0-2) is scheduled to visit Gladewater at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Union Grove 3, Leverett’s Chapel 2

LAIRD HILL — It was Lady Lions vs. Lady Lions on Tuesday as Leverett’s Chapel played host to Union Grove in a District 19-2A volleyball match.

Union Grove took the win 3-2 (20-25, 25-14, 17-25, 25-20, 19-17).

UG events its district mark at 1-1, while LC drops to 0-2.

Outstanding players for Leverett’s Chapel were: Michelle Jamaica (13 kills, 31 digs, 3 aces), Lexus Haley (10 kills, 9 digs, 15 assists, 1 ace) and Jalynn Peery (1 kill, 2 digs, 4 aces).

Leverett’s Chapel will host the Overton Lady Mustangs on Friday beginning at 4:30 p.m. Union Grove visits Big Sandy on Friday.

Troup 3, Arp 2

ARP — Troup battled to take a 3-2 win over Arp (17-25, 25-22, 25-26, 25-20, 15-6) on Tuesday.

Hadley Derrick had 10 kills for Troup. Josie Martin had nine kills and eight digs, and Maryssa Gilliam had eight kills.

Avery Thimbodeaux had 14 digs, and Alyssa Adamic added five kills, 11 digs and six aces. Samantha Eastman had six kills and six digs, and Macie Hampton had six digs.

Troup (7-21) will host West Rusk on Friday.

Sabine 3, Gladewater 0

GLADEWATER — Sabine completed a sweep of Gladewater (25-7, 25-14, 25-10) on Tuesday.

Sam Bell had nine kills for Sabine, and Mikinzi Cantrell, Maddi Furrh and Aubree McCann all had eight kills. 

Sierrah Richter had 36 assists, and Bell added eight digs.

Sabine (26-5) will host Arp on Friday.

Henderson 3, Kilgore 1

HENDERSON — Henderson dropped the first set but then won three straight to defeat Kilgore (26-28, 25-22, 25-21, 25-22) on Tuesday.

Analena Tavo had 19 kills and 18 digs for Henderson. Heather Craig had 12 kills and 27 digs. Ann Mills had nine kills and 19 digs, and Cora Jimmerson had 36 assists and eight digs.

Henderson (15-13) will host Central Heights at 4:30 p.m. Friday.

Bullard 3, Gilmer 1

BULLARD — Bullard defeated Gilmer (23-25, 25-18, 25-18, 25-23) in District 16-4A action.

Sara McKeethan had 14 kills and 17 digs for Bullard. Keili Richmond had 15 kills, five digs and three blocks. Libby Eitel had 26 assists and nine digs. Kylie McKeethan had 12 assists and nine digs. Sarah Lewinski had 10 kills.

Bullard (26-5, 2-0) will host Spring Hill at 4:30 p.m. Friday.

Quitman 3, Grand Saline 1

QUITMAN — Quitman defeated Grand Saline (26-24, 29-27, 20-25, 25-18) in District 12-3A action on Tuesday.

Jentri Jackson had 18 digs, 17 kills, two aces and one block for Quitman. Ava Bourroughs had four digs, 11 kills, three aces, two blocks. Lucy Brannon had 24 digs and five kills. Shelby Hayes had nine digs, two aces and 44 assists.

Quitman (12-19, 2-0) will play Rains at 4:30 p.m. p.m. Friday in Emory.

Mineola 3, Alba-Golden 0

MINEOLA — Mineola swept Alba-Golden (25-21, 25-9, 25-17) in District 12-3A action on Tuesday.

Leaders for Mineola were Brittany Pickle 11 kills, two aces, 13 digs, one assist and one block; Sabria Dean 10 kills, two blocks and seven digs; Meghan Brewington 20 digs and one ace; and Mylee Fischer 15 assist and seven digs.

Lindale 3, Rusk 0

LINDALE — Lindale swept Rusk (25-11, 25-22, 25-8) in non-district action on Tuesday.

Shelbi Steen and Brenley Philen led the Lady Eagles in kills. Kalaya Pierce led the team in assists.

Lindale (18-11) will begin district play against Mount Pleasant Friday in Lindale. Rusk will play at Bishop Gorman on Tuesday.

Rains 3, Lone Oak 2

EMORY — Rains took a five-set win over Lone Oak (15-25, 25-18, 26-24, 24-26, 15-12) on Tuesday.

Harley Kreck had 16 kills, 21 digs, 18 assists, seven aces and two blocks.

Storey Smith had 10 kills. Leo Terry had eight kills and 14 digs.

Presley McAree had 15 digs. Jasminte Mott had nine assists. Catrin Hoffman had two aces and three blocks, and Katy Traylor added two blocks.
