Tuesday VB Roundup: No. 5 Hallsville sweeps Lee

HALLSVILLE — Robert E. Lee dropped its third straight match and suffered its second sweep in three outings Tuesday at Hallsville.

The Lady Raiders fell 25-17, 25-18 and 25-21 to the Lady Bobcats, ranked No. 5 in Class 5A.



Lee (7-4) received four kills apiece from Emily Starr and Ryan Russeau. Taylor Winchester finished with a team-high 27 digs in the loss.

Lee will next compete Friday in the Tyler Invitational Tournament. The Lady Raiders are grouped in a pool with Eustace, New Boston and Quitman. The matches begin at noon at REL Varsity Gymnasium.

Henderson 3, John Tyler 0

HENDERSON — In a battle of Lady Lions, Henderson came out on top again.

Henderson swept John Tyler 25-9, 25-19, 25-22 on Tuesday night for its second win over JT in as many matches. The two played in the final of the challenger bracket at the ETBU Tournament on Saturday.

John Tyler coach LaMessa Derrett said her Lady Lions (6-10) passed and set up plays well but couldn’t execute the attacks.

Tuesday marked the end of a 16-game road swing to start the year for John Tyler, which hosts the Tyler Invitational Tournament starting Thursday. The Lady Lions will play Troup, North Lamar and Alba-Golden in pool play at the Lions Den.

The Lady Crusaders received 13 assists from Katelin Jacobi and three blocks from Natasha Crouch.
