Rosters announced for three All-Star basketball events; Azalea Orthopedics games canceled

Actual court time is still up in the air thanks to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) outbreak, but East Texas basketball standouts were recently selected to fill rosters for three area all-star games.

The 17th annual Azalea Orthopedics All-Star Basketball Classic was scheduled for March 28 at Tyler Junior College’s Wagstaff Gymnasium, but the games have been canceled.


The second Hoops for Autism All-Star Basketball Games are set for April 4 at Spring Hill’s Panther Gymnasium. That game is still on the books for now.

The Scouting Report East Texas Top 24 All-Star Games, set for April 18 at Rains High School in Emory, have been postponed. No makeup date has been scheduled as of Thursday.

AZALEA ORTOPHEDICS ALL-STAR BASKETBALL CLASSIC

The West roster for girls includes Sabria Dean of Mineola, Shakera Thompson of Malakoff, Erin Berry of Bullard, Kenzie Cross of Martin’s Mill, Olivia Norrell of Canton, Tamia Tucker and Kalessia Anderson of Jacksonville, Madeline Perkins of All Saints, Tabitha Parker of Edgewood and Meeyah Davis of Teague. The head coach is Tommy Cross of Martin’s Mill.

The East roster for girls includes Jaclyn Garrett of Daingerfield, Meshia Shead of Longview, Aaliyah Morgan and Alyssia Thorne of Tyler Lee, Jerkasia Anthony of Henderson, Mikinzi Cantrell of Sabine, Zamoria McGrue of Carthage, Airikah Pippins of Big Sandy, Hannah Hawkins of Woden and Tyler Green of Pittsburg. The head coach is Ross Barber of Tyler Lee.

The West roster for boys includes Logan Francis of All Saints, Carlos Quistian of Neches, Jacob Koeshall of Lindale, Trey McPherson of Edgewood, Cooper Smith of Canton, Jace Reid of Quitman, Jeremiah Sargent of Oakwood, Enoch Fatade of Palestine, Gage Wehrmann of Brownsboro and Isaac Jackson of LaPoynor. The head coach is Dean Nuckolls of LaPoynor.

The East roster for boys includes Casey Mudoh of Spring Hill, Carson Daniels of Union Grove, Markell Washington of Henderson, Miles Minnick of Bishop Gorman, Jamal Jones of Tyler Lee, Phillip Washington of Longview, Joshua Shipman of Big Sandy, Chance King of Chapel Hill and Nana-Antwi-Boasiako and Deonte Jackson of Nacogdoches. The head coach is Akimba Johnson of Chapel Hill.

HOOPS FOR AUTISM

Games are set for 5:30 p.m. (girls) and 7:30 p.m. (boys). No admission will be charged, but donations will be accepted at the door. All proceeds will be donated to Children’s Autism Center in Dallas.

Coaches are Jermaine Lewis of Gladewater (head coach), Shanna Johnson of Harleton and Eric Woods of Marshall.
