Final score: Robert E. Lee 34, Rockwall-Heath 7

Turning point: With a little over seven minutes remaining in the half, Lee led 7-0 and had allowed 28 yards total to Rockwall-Heath. Two turnovers deep in their own territory and a three-and-out gave Heath the momentum to answer with three-straight scores to lead 21-7 at halftime.

The game was over when: Heath drained six minutes off the third-quarter clock before settling for a field goal. The Red Raiders managed one first down on their next two drives before Heath ended any more comeback thoughts with 65-yard TD run on third-and-three from its own 35.

Key stats: Seventeen of Heath’s points came after Lee turnovers. The Red Raiders also denied themselves a potential 14-0 lead in the first quarter with a lost fumble.

Warning signs: After three turnovers combined in their first three games, the Red Raiders turned it over four times against Heath – two of those were in the red zone to deny scoring chances and the other two were deep in their own territory which led to scores against them.

Positive signs: Save for one errant deep pass that was intercepted, Lee’s offense had success through the air with Chance Amie completing 12 of 18 for 184 yards and a TD. It would have been more if not for a fourth-quarter 49-yard TD to Keashun Davis wasn’t called back for a holding penalty.

What this loss means: The Red Raiders (2-2) have dropped two in a row and are 0-1 to start to District 11-6A.

Fast forward: Lee faces Longview (3-1, 1-0) which won its league opener 47-37 over Mesquite Horn.
