LONGVIEW — Robert E. Lee prepared for its upcoming playoff clash with Garland Lakeview Centennial by defeating Pleasant Grove 41-36 Saturday in a warm-up game at Spring Hill High School.

Pleasant Grove is led by 6-7 Colorado signee Dustin Thomas, which is why REL wanted to match up against the Hawks.

Thomas finished with 21 points, which was nearly matched by Lee senior Taylor Tankersley, who drained four 3-pointers in a 20-point effort.

“We wanted to play a team that pressed a lot and had a big kid who was talented and had kids who could shoot well from the perimeter,” said Lee coach Alan Johnston. “Pleasant Grove kind of replicates what we expect to face on Tuesday.”

Lee (21-10) will next face Lakeview Centennial at 7 p.m. Tuesday in a Class 5A bi-district playoff game at Van High School.
