In a key league contest against the Gladewater Bears, the Mineola Yellow Jackets stepped up and scored a 17-14 victory Friday at Jack V. Murphy-Bear Stadium in Gladewater.
Trevion Sneed played a vital role in helping his team to the district win. The Yellow Jacket junior rushed for 201 yards and a touchdown on 34 carries against the Bears.
For his efforts, Sneed was named the UT Health East Texas Offensive Player of the Week for the seventh week of the high school football season.
He will be featured on a poster, sponsored by UT Health East Texas, in Friday’s The Zone special section of the Tyler Morning Telegraph.
Sneed follows Sabine senior running back BJ Stidham (Week 1), Big Sandy senior quarterback Caden Minter (Week 2), Bullard Brook Hill senior quarterback Garrett Esposito (Week 3), Chapel Hill quarterback Kobe Coker (Week 4), Grace Community running back Jeremiah Milton (Week 5) and Whitehouse running back Peyton Kennedy (Week 6) in garnering the award.
Sneed could have also won for his defensive effort as he had 15 tackles.
Sneed was instrumental in helping Mineola drive the length of the field in the fourth quarter to set up Gustavo Sanchez’s 20-yard game-winning field goal as time expired.
He had a 15-yard run on the drive on third-and-1 from the Gladewater 40 to keep the march alive.
Mineola tied the game at 14-14 late in the third on a touchdown run by Sneed on third-and-goal from the Bear 1-yard line.
On the season, Sneed, in four games, has rushed for 328 yards and two TDs on 71 carries.
The Yellow Jackets are 3-3 overall and 1-1 in District 8-3A Division I.
Fans can see Sneed and the Yellow Jackets in action on Friday when White Oak (0-7, 0-3) visits Mineola for a 7:30 p.m. kick at Meredith Memorial Stadium.
