Whitehouse junior quarterback Patrick Mahomes has been named the Built Ford Tough Class 4A Player of the Week following his performance Friday against John Tyler.

Despite a 45-38 loss to the second-ranked Lions in the District 16-4A title game, Mahomes completed 28 of 57 passes for 445 yards and four touchdowns. He also scored a rushing touchdown while facing constant pressure from JT’s defense.

“Patrick played his heart out,” Wildcats coach Randy McFarlin said. “He was sacked eight times and took shots all night. But he kept getting up and getting it done. He’s simply a great young man who is a great leader on and off the field. If the world was full of Patrick Mahomeses, it would be a much better place.”

Mahomes, who carries a straight A average in the class room, has passed for 3,061 yards and 37 touchdowns this season, plus has rushed for six scores. He and the Wildcats (9-1) meet Ennis (8-2) in the 4A bi-district playoffs at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Mesquite Memorial Stadium.

The other players of the week are McAllen Rowe senior quarterback Javi Obregon (5A), Lorena junior quarterback/kicker Harris Coleman (3A), Rice senior running back Ragan Henderson (2A), Albany senior quarterback/kicker Jake Bumguardner (1A) and Fort Worth All Saints junior quarterback Foster Sawyer (private schools).
