With an eye on next week’s regular-season opener, the John Tyler Lions football team will scrimmage the Dallas Jesuit Rangers on Friday at North Forney High School in Forney.

The freshmen and JV squads are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m., with the Lions and Rangers varsity teams playing about 7:15 p.m.

JT Coach Ricklan Holmes said they do not game-plan for scrimmages.

After the scrimmage, JT will focus on Mesquite Horn. That game is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30, at Christus Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium.

The Lions will then face crosstown rival Robert E. Lee on Saturday, Sept. 7, followed by a nationally televised clash with East Texas rival Longview on Thursday, Sept. 12 (ESPN2).

Holmes said the short week between the Lee and Lobo games does not concern him since it is non-district. If it was a district game, he would have a different view.
