Indians lose on late field goal

HALLSVILLE — Austin Lightle hit a 22-yard field goal as time ran out to give the Hallsville Bobcats a 30-28 upset win over the Jacksonville Indians in a District 14-4A game Friday.
Trailing 28-27 with time running out, Josh Warbington hit Andre Jones on pass to the Indians’ 20-yard line. A facemask penalty on the play move the ball forward to the 5 to set up with winning kick.
Hallsville (3-5, 2-3) jumped out to a 13-point first quarter lead on a 37-yard touchdown pass from Warbinton to Andre Jones and a 2-yard scoring run by Cayden Ferrill.
Jacksonville (3-5, 3-2) made it 13-8 with 5:15 left in the quarter on a 71-yard run by Austin Gipson.
Hallsville padded its lead to 20-8 with 3:18 on a 7-yard Warbington to Jones pass, but the Indians came back with 22 seconds left in the half to make it 20-15 on a 57-yard scoring pass from Andrew Black to LonDedric Taylor.
The Bobcats opened the second-half scoring on Warbinton’s third touchdown pass, this time a 36-yard toss to B.J. Wilder.
Jacksonville scored late in the third on a 5-yard Black to Taylor pass. The Indians made it 28-27 with 1:22 left in the fourth on a 3-yard run by Black.
