Lee, JT square off at Wagstaff Gym

For the first time since 2009-10, John Tyler and Robert E. Lee will face off on the hardwood with a full complement of players.

The two rivals play their only game of the year tonight at Tyler Junior College's Wagstaff Gymnasium. Tipoff is slated for 7:30 p.m.

The Lions have typically played the Red Raiders shorthanded in recent years due to lengthy playoff runs by the football team. With both Lee and JT out of the football playoffs, the basketball teams will be at full strength, albeit in early-season form.

John Tyler hasn't beaten Lee since the 2009-10 season, when the Lions won both district meetings. The schools are now non-district foes competing once per year.

Lee won last year's meeting 50-36.

The Red Raiders (1-1) have been idle since a 47-44 setback to Lufkin on Nov. 15. They opened the year with a 68-30 rout of Hallsville.

John Tyler (2-1) has won two straight since a 104-101 loss to Marshall to start the season. The Lions beat Pleasant Grove 67-47 and Royse City 64-59.
