HS Baseball Roundup, Feb. 23: All Saints rallies for 5-2 win

PLANO — After three straight losses to teams from TAPPS 1-5A, All Saints finally beat the fourth.

After falling behind by two runs early, the Trojans rallied for a 5-2 victory over Dallas Bishop Lynch in their final game at the Prestonwood Tournament on Saturday.



William Young allowed two hits and struck out six in a complete-game victory. Trey Rowe smacked a home run and Owen Harris had a double for All Saints.

Grace clobbers Arp, 20-3

NEW CHAPEL HILL — Blake White and Jonny Spitzer each went 3 for 5 to help Grace Community crush Arp 20-3 in the final game of the Chapel Hill Tournament on Saturday.

Austin Patrick, Dylan Sumpter, Austin Yeager and Chandler Nutt all had two hits for the Cougars. Nutt had four RBIs and Sumpter scored four runs.

Guard ousted in semis of Pittsburg Tournament

PITTSBURG — Bullard Brook Hill fell to Mount Vernon 2-0 in the semifinals of the Pittsburg Tournament on Saturday.

Tigers pitcher Daniel Brown struck out 13 and held Brook Hill to three hits in six innings. Bailey Pennington had two hits and a run.

Brook Hill catcher Kendall Kerns tripled in the sixth, but Brown struck out Collin Mondrik to end the game.

The Guard beat Gladewater 7-6 to finish pool play.

Brook Hill’s Drew Robertson scored twice and had two RBIs without recording a hit in a game in which both teams scored four times in the fourth and final inning. He was hit by a pitch twice.

Kerns added a double for the Guard, who scored seven runs on three hits.

Baker propels Carlisle past ETCA

PRICE — Gunner Baker went 2 for 3 with two runs, two RBIs and a double while striking out seven in three innings to lead Carlisle past East Texas Christian Academy on Saturday in the Carlisle Tournament.

Ben Goss added three hits and Zach Brightwell scored twice for the Indians (4-0). Shadow Sanders struck out six in three innings in relief of Baker.

Baker and Clay Allphin had four RBIs apiece in an 18-0 win over West Rusk on Friday. Brightwell struck out seven in three innings to record his first victory of the year

Covington sparks Bears to 6-3 win

PALESTINE — Ryan Covington hit and pitched the Brownsboro Bears to a 6-3 win over Groesbeck on Thursday in the Howard Estes Memorial Baseball Tournament.

The tourney is hosted by Palestine, Palestine Westwood and Elkhart.

Covington had a single and triple for two RBIs. He allowed just one hit, striking out three, allowing no runs or walks in two innings.

Tyler Thomison pitched 2 2-3 innings, striking out four.
