Tyler Lee senior Carly Wyatt scored four goals and head coach Chris Woodard achieved his 400th career win as the Lady Raiders blasted Longview 8-2 Tuesday in their final home game of the regular season on Senior Night at Red Raider Field.

She is a special player and she can take over a game,” Woodard said of his senior striker. “You obviously need others around her playing well too and you need a goalkeeper who make saves for you and we (had all of it tonight).”

Senior Haley Bogenschutz finished with 10 saves, blanking Longview in the second half after Wyatt’s first-half hat trick helped stake Lee to a 5-2 advantage at the break.

At halftime, the team honored the late Anna Wegener, who died last summer in an auto accident. She was 19.

“Anna was selfless, goal-driven and always looked out for the other person,” Woodard said in a written announcement read aloud by P.A announcer Bryan Houston. “It was an honor and a privilege to know and coach Anna Wegener.”

The Lee varsity players have donned bright yellow armbands throughout the season. A Wegener quote hung on the fence during the match. It read: ‘Live Bold and Whip Often.”

Wegener’s former teammate, Wyatt, put the ball in the back of the net often on this night.

Lee and Longview battled to a tie in their first meeting, but this one turned out to be a goal fest. After nearly setting up a goal for teammate Kelsey Romero, whose shot hit the post, Wyatt took matters into her own hands. The senior gained possession down the right wing, run past Longview’s defender and hammered her shot into the left corner of the net for a 1-0 lead.

Another Wyatt breakaway minutes later led to a second goal. Wyatt headed the ball past a defender and ran on to it. With only the keeper to beat, Wyatt calmly made it 2-0.

Deanna Zarcone made it 3-0 Lee in the 25th minute when she pounced on a rebound from the Lady Lobos keeper, who had parried away a shot from Maddie Bice, straight to Zarcone.

Bogenschutz then was called into action, tipping a long-range effort over the crossbar and making a diving save to tip away the ball on a corner kick.

The Lady Lobos kept pressing and were rewarded with consecutive goals, the first by Colleen Gilliland and the second on a blast from Alexandra Sanchez.

With 14 minutes until halftime, the Lady Raiders earned a penalty kick when Longview’s keeper clattered into a Lee’s Zarcone in the box, while trying to prevent her shot.

Irasel Pacheco did the honors. She scored twice, with the first one waived off by the referee. Pacheco steadied herself and was true again on her second attempt to make it 4-2.

With less than a minute to play until halftime, Wyatt completed her hat trick off a great pass from Lexie Thedford, which put Wyatt behind the defense once again and she didn’t miss.

Leading 5-2, the Lady Raiders played more possession in the second half until Wyatt once again got behind Longview’s defense and made the Lady Lobos pay. This time the through ball was delivered by Romero as Wyatt raced in and tapped the ball past the keeper to make it 6-2.

For emphasis, Lee tacked on two more goals. The first on a long-range blast from senior Maddie Bice and the last one on a goal by Thedford.

It all added up to another victory for Woodard, who celebrated his 400th win as Lady Raiders head coach.

“I hate to take credit for 400 wins, when it’s really been the girls doing all the winning,” Woodard said. ‘I have had a lot of help and assistant Sara Hernandez has been with me for 10 years. I was glad that we (avenged) our tie with Longview. We’ve only had a couple blemishes on our record and that was one of them.

Lee is 17-3-1 and 9-1-1 in District 11-6A and remain tied with Rockwall-Heath for first place in the league standings.

Tyler Lee honored its seniors before kickoff as Maddie Bice, Haley Bogenschutz, Kaleigh Minehart, Cailey Perkins, Kelsey Romero, Meghan Romines, Abby Tillson, Irasel Pachecho and Carly Wyatt all receiving individual recognition.

The Lady Raiders finish the regular season on the road Friday at Mesquite Horn.
