Haftu Knight won his fourth straight district cross country championship while leading Tyler Lee to the team title on Saturday on the UT Tyler course.
The Red Raiders totaled 27 points to take the District 11-6A championship. They were followed by Rockwall (51 points) and North Mesquite (79).
The Robert E. Lee Lady Raiders finished second behind Rockwall. Lee, led by Sarah Hamlin’s fourth-place finish, scored 46 points. Rockwall won with 30 points, while Rockwall-Heath placed third with 65 points.
The top three teams and top 10 individuals advance to the Class 6A Region II meet Monday, Oct. 22 at Lynn Creek Park in Grand Prairie.
BOYS
Knight won the boys individual championship with a time of 15 minutes and 10.76 seconds.
Four other Red Raiders finished in the top 10 — 4, Nick Knight, 16:33.91; 6, Rob Garrity, 16:56.02; 7, Alex Asad, 17:02.21 and Noah Hall, 17:16.73.
Preston Newberry was just outside the top 10, placing 11th with a time of 17:25.44. Spencer Webb finished 30th (18:20.69).
River Hill, of Rockwall, won the silver (15:56.55) while North Mesquite’s Roman Vazques (16:22.63) took the bronze.
GIRLS
Kathryn Avery, of Rockwall, won the gold with a time of 19:43. She was followed by Rockwall-Heath’s Jordyn Brown (19:57.79) and Rockwall’s Liah Collins (20:13.79).
