LINDALE — Carthage racked up 568 yards of total offense en route to a 45-17 victory over Lindale on Friday night at Eagle Stadium.
Terian “Tee” Goree led the Class 3A top-ranked Bulldogs with eight catches for 173 yards and three scores a week after catching eight passes for three scores against Jacksonville.
Blake Bogenschutz threw for 369 yards and four touchdowns for the Carthage. Tevin Pipkin and Bryian Bolton ran for 100 and 61 yards, respectively.
The Bulldogs scored twice in the first quarter and added 10 points in the second period to take a 24-10 lead at halftime.
Delenis Garrett led the Eagles (0-2) with 156 yards rushing on 33 carries. Tayton Williams caught four passes for 65 yards. David Slice and Nash Walters both completed six passes for 74 and 73 yards, respectively.
Pipkin took in the first touchdown on a four-yard run, but a 93-yard kickoff return by Deandre Williams quickly tied the game at seven with 6:51 left in the first quarter.
Carthage hit right back with a four-play drive that ended in a 52-yard pass to Goree for the score.
The Bulldogs stopped Lindale in the ensuing drive and added seven more points with their next possession. Bogenschutz found Goree for 38 yards and connected with him again on the first play of the second quarter to put Carthage up 21-7.
Both teams added a field goal before the break, with Carthage’s coming on the final play of the half from 27 yards by Jimmy Gonzalez.
Lindale received the ball to begin the third quarter and made it a one-touchdown game with an eight-play drive. Delenis Garrett carried the ball six times and scored from eight yards out to make it a 24-17 game.
Carthage, however, would keep the Eagles from adding to their total for the remainder of the contest and posted three more touchdowns to close out the game.
Bogenschutz and Goree hooked up one more time from 26 yards to put the Bulldogs up 31-17. Carthage forced the Eagles to punt and on its next offensive play Bogenschutz found tight end Marquis Guinn over the middle for a 49-yard touchdown.
Bryian Bolton added the Bulldogs’ final score with 7:43 left in the game. He ran the ball three times for 21, 13 and 15 yards during a four-play drive.
Lindale fumbled the ball over to Carthage on the following drive and touched the ball one more time before time ran out.
