Fort Worth Christian stops Brook Hill in TAPPS state softball semifinals

- THE BROOK HILL SCHOOL/COURTESYTHE BULLARD BROOK HILL Lady Guard participated in the TAPPS Division II state softball tournament in Crosby. Team members include: 1- McKenna Lovelady; 2- Maddie Anthony; 3- Kaitlyn Juarez; 4- Neeley Clark; 6- Cassie Cannon; 7- Kasey Anderson; 9- Lexi Turner; 10- Vanna Dean; 11- Mary Roberts; 12- Presley Mizell; 15- Micah Lovelady; and 21- Grace Yeager. Anthony Springer is the head coach. Assistants are Candise Wise and Kaylee Prather.
CROSBY — Bullard Brook Hill tried to rally, but fell short on Friday in the TAPPS Division II state softball tournament semifinals at Crosby High School.
Fort Worth Christian scored a 6-3 win over the Lady Guard.
Brook Hill, coached by Anthony Springer, took a 1-0 lead, but the Cardinals plated four in the bottom of the first. The Lady Guard scored two in the third to pull within 4-3, but could get no closer.
Kasey Anderson, Maddie Anthony, Micah Lovelady and Cassie Cannon all had singles for the Lady Guard.
Neeley Clark and Cannon had RBIs with Anderson (2) and Anthony scoring runs.
Anderson was in the circle for Brook Hill, going six innings while allowing nine hits and six runs, of which only three were earned. She struck out seven and did not walk a batter.
Liv Shahan got the win, hurling seven innings while giving up four hits and three runs, of which two were earned. She had six strikeouts and four walks.
Missy Wise and Moriah Ortiz had doubles for the North Richland Hills school.
Ortiz, Wise, Bayleigh Hall and Annika Heredia each had two hits with Macy Waddell adding one. RBIs were from Wise, Hall, Heredia and Waddell. Scoring runs were Hall (2), Wise, Heredia, Madison Strange and Addison Hooper.
The Cardinals will face Sugar Land Fort Bend Christian in the championship game at 11 a.m. Saturday.
Fort Bend Christian defeated San Antonio Holy Cross, 1-0, in the other semifinal game.
