The high school football season is set to kick off this evening, but Hurricane Isaac might stand in the way.

A meeting is set for 10 a.m. today to determine whether the Trinity Mother Frances Football Classic opener will be played as scheduled. The matchup features a pair of Class 3A powers in Gilmer and Atlanta at 7:30 p.m. from TMF Rose Stadium.

According to the CBS 19 weather team, “Only the East Texas counties bordering Louisiana have the potential to see as much as 1 to 1 ½ inches of rain.”

The weather report also states that “Wind will gust up to 20 MPH in the Tyler area, they should be a little stronger in those eastern counties. …A more westward track would bring more of the effects of Isaac into East Texas.”

If played tonight and not rescheduled, the Gilmer-Atlanta matchup would be the first of four games at the TMF classic. The other games on tap are John Tyler vs. Lufkin (7:30 p.m. Friday), Wills Point vs. Pittsburg (11 a.m. Saturday) and Robert E. Lee vs. Sulphur Springs (7:30 p.m. Saturday).

The JT and Lee games will feature the coaching debuts of Ricklan Holmes and Darrell Piske, respectively.
