MABANK – Brownsboro rolled to a 47-16 victory over Mabank Friday in their District 8-4A Division I opener on the road at Panther Stadium.
Kevon Thompson got things started for the Bears (4-1, 1-0) when he returned the opening kickoff for a 78-yard touchdowns. Brownsboro never looked back after that.
“We came out like a house fire and took care of business,” said Bears coach Greg Pearson about the win.
Brownsboro outscored Mabank 27-0 in the first quarter. Following Thomson’s special teams score, he found the end zone a more traditional way on a 56-yard run. Kenneth Woods (15) and Saul Williams also (40) scored on touchdown runs.
Luis Suarez added three out of four extra points. The first quarter ended 27-0 in favor of the Bears.
The teams traded touchdowns in the second quarter. Williams blasted in from eight yards out for the Bears.
The Panthers got on the board with 20 seconds left in the half. Devin Gibbs tossed an eight yard pass to Matthew McGee for the Panthers score. James Coker kicked the pat to put the score at 33-7, in favor of Brownsboro.
The second half started out like the first. The Bears made their fifth defensive stop and Woods galloped 34 yards for another score. However, Mabank blocked the extra point and Jonah Armstrong scooped it up and scampered 90 yards for two points.
The Panthers used most of the fourth quarter to score their final touchdown. Chaseon Parks ran in from the one and Coker kicked the PAT.
Williams high-stepped 66 yards for the final Brownsboro touchdown of the evening. Logan Porter ran in the two-point conversion to make the final score 47-16.
The Bears host Van next Friday, while the Panthers(1-5) are open next week.
