Cheyenne Brown scored the game's first eight points.

She was only warming up.

Brown, a sophomore, poured in 41 points on 17-of-23 shooting to propel Martins Mill to a 69-56 victory over Bishop Gorman on Tuesday at Haddad Gym.

The game was the finale of a tripleheader on the Gorman campus. Earlier in the afternoon, Troup beat All Saints 38-23 before Grace Community topped Marshall 58-44.

With a height advantage inside, Brown, a 6-footer, scored 14 points in the first quarter and had 26 by halftime. No matter the defense the Lady Crusaders (5-1) threw at her, the Lady Mustangs (5-0) found a way to get her the ball and Brown found ways to score.

"She does a good job around the bucket," Martins Mill coach Doug Barncastle said. "She likes to score; we like to get her the ball.

"She's a special player. In a game like that, she knows she's got size on everybody. It's always good to see her be aggressive going to the bucket, making things happen for us."

Behind Brown's strong start, the Lady Mustangs burst out to an 11-0 lead, capped by a 3-pointer by Cassidy McCoy. The Lady Crusaders cut the deficit to as small as four in the second quarter, but Brown was there with a counter punch to end every Gorman run.

"I'm proud of their effort," Lady Crusaders coach Katie Robertson said. "Martins Mill is just a fundamentally sound team. We knew we were going to have to play hard, we just came up short."

Brown brought down 11 rebounds and fellow 6-footer Meagan Weatherford had 12. Martins Mill held a 39-29 advantage on the glass.

"That's always nice when you've got two six-footers, especially rebounding," Barncastle said. "It makes a big difference. It's nice with (Brown) and Weatherford.

"It's almost like having another player being that big."

Michelle Obach, fighting illness, scored 21 points to lead Gorman, though Martins Mill senior Taylor Munns held her scoreless in the first half. Danielle Smith added 10 points and 11 boards.

The Lady Mustangs shot 60 percent in the first half and 48 percent for the game. The Lady Crusaders struggled from the field, hitting 32 percent.

"We were off tonight," Robertson said.

Grace Community 58, Marshall 44

With both teams slow to find offensive rhythm early, it was Taylor Kingsley who found the scoring touch for the Lady Cougars.

Kingsley scored 10 of her game-high 17 points in the second quarter as Grace Community (3-4) kept Marshall (0-6) winless on the year.

The Lady Cougars ripped off a 14-0 run in the second quarter, with Kingsley scoring eight in a row at one point.

Catherine Rook added 11 points and eight rebounds for Grace while Rebekah Provines chipped in eight points and 11 rebounds.

Dateavia Robinson led the Lady Mavericks with 13 points and a game-high 16 boards.

Jhaenniece Rasberry scored two fast-break layups early in the fourth quarter to pull Marshall within 39-35, but Kingsley struck back with her third 3-pointer and Grace pulled away late.

Troup 38, All Saints 23

The Lady Tigers (1-3) held the Lady Trojans (1-5) to two points in the middle two quarters to earn a 15-point victory.

Peyton Nolan scored 14 and Josie Ross added 11 points, 11 rebounds and four steals for Troup, which led 13-10 after one quarter but 33-12 heading into the final frame.

All Saints leading scorer Kelcee Harwood went down with a knee injury midway through the second and did not return. The Lady Trojans struggled to find offense after that until the fourth quarter.

Sarah Smith scored all of her team-high eight points in the fourth quarter, adding seven rebounds for All Saints.
