BULLARD — In front of a packed Herrington Gym on Friday, Bullard Brook Hill swept Bishop Gorman in a TAPPS 2-4A hoops doubleheader. The Lady Guard won 50-30 while the Brook Hill boys won 77-41.

The Lady Crusaders led 7-5 after one quarter before Emily Webb and Avery Langemeier went to work for the Lady Guard (6-7, 2-2 TAPPS 2-4A).

Webb stepped up to score seven points and grabbed five rebounds in the period while Langemeier sank four free throws to give Brook Hill a 21-12 lead at the intermission.

“We had a slow start and made a ton of errors but the ladies responded in the second quarter to finish the half strong,” Lady Guard coach Ivan Johnson said. “We continued to turn up the defense in the third quarter and pulled away. The ladies all played well, and we needed this district win.”

Charlie Niles led all players with 17 points, including Brook Hill’s final nine, adding seven rebounds and five assists. Webb finished with 12 and Langemeier had 10 points, six boards and seven assists.

In the boys matchup, Brook Hill could not have started any better, streaking to an 18-0 lead and a 20-2 score after one quarter.

The guard play of Brook Hill dominated the first half as Alex Hale and Grant Hanks combined for 30 points by intermission.

“We did a really good job of pushing the ball up the floor and getting some good transition points,” Guard coach Jacob Agnew said. “And when you hold someone to two points in a quarter, that says something for your guys playing some great defense.

“We’ve got a tough game in Frisco against Legacy on Tuesday and hopefully we will continue to improve and have a good game in Dallas and help us get ready for the All Saints game on Friday.”

Hale finished with a game-high 20 points while Hanks added 16 for the Guard (10-8, 4-1). Sophomore Judah Bell hit for 18 points to lead the Crusaders (6-14, 2-3).
