BUFFALO — Bullard Brook Hill has clinched its third consecutive berth in the state final.

Will Weathers ran for 124 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Guard past Houston Cypress Christian, 28-17, in the TAPPS Division II semifinals Saturday at Buffalo High School.

Brook Hill (10-3) advances to meet Austin Regents — which beat the Guard last season — for the title at 6 p.m. Saturday in Killeen. Cypress Christian finished the season 8-5.

Weathers, a first-year quarterback for the Guard, carried the ball 16 times on a windy afternoon. Senior running back Gunnar Dorsey added 23 carries for 138 yards as Brook Hill finished with 364 yards on the ground.

The Guard defense limited Cypress Christian to 102 total yards.

“This is something that the kids have been working for,” coach Terry Pirtle said.

Brook Hill went into the break with a 21-14 lead, thanks to a trio of scores by Weathers. He got the scoring started with a 2-yard plunge with 7:43 left in the first quarter, about three minutes before Cypress Christian tied it.

Weathers’ other scores also broke ties, the first from 60 yards out with 2:54 left in the first and the second from 3 yards away with 3:54 to go before halftime.

Neither team was able to score in the third quarter, but Cypress Christian’s Austin Barton kicked a 25-yard field goal to make the score 21-17 with 10:59 to go in the fourth. The one-score game lasted less than six minutes, because Weathers scored from 1-yard away to increase the Guard’s lead to 11 points with 5:01 left in the game.
