Arp scores late to beat West Rusk

NEW LONDON – Demontre Wade raced 61 yards for a touchdown with 2:36 to play, and Ford Merritt booted the extra point for Arp as the Tigers rallied for a 21-20 win over the previously unbeaten West Rusk Raiders on Friday at Bruce Bradshaw Stadium.
West Rusk led 7-0 early following a 1-yard TD run by L.J. Harper and a PAT from Jose Cerda with 4:36 to play in the opening quarter.
Arp scored on a 6-yard run by Kayce Medlock with 29 seconds left in the frame, butt he PAT was blocked to leave Arp trailing 7-6.
West Rusk took a 14-6 lead in at the half after a 1-yard TD pass from Harper to Jacob Waller, but Arp tied the contest with 3:34 to play in the third on a Tyler Stewart 1-yard run and a two-point conversion.
Harper’s 3-yard TD run with 4:32 to play made it a 20-14 contest, but the PAT failed and Arp won it on Wade’s late touchdown run.
Harper passed for 134 yards on the night. Levi Hughes had four catches for 78 yards.
West Rusk (6-1, 2-1) visits Waskom, and Arp (6-2, 3-1) is at Troup on Friday.
