All Saints boys, Gorman girls win in doubleheader

At a packed Haddad Gym, Bishop Gorman and All Saints split a TAPPS 2-4A basketball doubleheader Friday night.

In the first game, the Bishop Gorman Lady Crusaders, led by Courtney Fergerson’s 21 points and Brooke Lee’s 17, scored a 60-26 win over the Lady Trojans. Lee also had 10 assists and five steals in the contest.



In the second game, Aston Francis hit for 17 points to lead the Trojans to the 74-58 win over the Crusaders.

 

GIRLS

Bishop Gorman opened the game with a 12-0 scoring run and finished the first quarter with a 21-4 lead. Lee had 11 first quarter points to help stretch the lead, while Fergerson contributed 13 first half points of her own. Mandie VanderVorste had five rebounds and three assists in the half as well as a bucket, and she finished the game with 5 points, eight rebounds, and four assists.

All Saints’ Kendall Rhodus and Kelcee Harwood both finished with 11 points, while Sarah Bracken and Hannah Huckabee both had five rebounds.

The win gives the Lady Crusaders a season record of 15-12 (3-4) going into next week’s game hosting Waco Reicher. All Saints goes to 9-15 (1-6) and will host Parish Episcopal next Tuesday at 6 p.m.

 

BOYS

Francis led the way scoring, which included three 3-pointers. Jaired Maddox added 12 points and Mathew Brunson and Luke Lee scored 10 points apiece.

All Saints won the tip-off and the game went back and forth throughout the first quarter with the Trojans leading 15-11 going into the second.

Bishop Gorman outscored the Trojans 17-16 in the second with Judah Bell scoring all of his 10 points in the quarter. Maddox hit a 3-pointer as time expired in the half giving the Trojans a 31-28 advantage.

The Trojans were able to sustain that momentum with a strong second-half performance, outscoring the Crusaders 43-30.

Garrett Thibodeaux led the Crusaders with 19 points, while Christian Watkins added 16.

All Saints was 15 of 24 from the free throw stripe, including 8 of 11 in the fourth quarter.

The Trojans record improves to 27-4 (5-2) and they will be hosting Parish Episcopal Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. Bishop Gorman falls to 10-14 (3-4) and will be hosting Waco Reicher Tuesday.
