Golf: Apache Ladies win own tourney

 

The Tyler Junior College Apache Ladies, led by medalist Mathilde Bertuol, captured the TJC Fall Intercollegiate Golf Tournament on Tuesday at Pine Springs Golf Course.

The Apaches, paced by Darryl Fulgham’s bronze medal finish, placed fourth.

The TJC women had a two-day total of 624 (309-315) to win by 22 strokes over runner-up Murray State, of Tishomingo, Oklahoma (332-314-646). Barton, of Great Bend, Kansas, was third at 671 (342-329).

Bertuol won the gold medal with a score of 2-over 146 (75-71). Rian Moores of Murray State was second at 7-over 151 (75-76). TJC’s Jil Dokenwald was third at 10-over 154 (73-81).

Other Apache Ladies on the winning team were Joy Dokenwald (8, 80-80-160), Brooke Irion (T9, 81-83-164) and Avery Watkins (11, 82-83-165).

Midland College, led by medalist Callum Bruce, won the men’s tourney with 562, followed by Murray State (563), Ranger (582) and TJC (583).

Bruce carded a 6-under 138 (68-70), one stroke ahead of Murray State’s Alistair Snowden.

TJC’s Fulgham carded a 4-under 140 (69-71) to tie for third with Murray State’s Josh Beatt and Midland’s Alex Motes. TJC’s Ethan Bozner tied for eight at 142, while Jacksonville’s Dylan Yarbrough tied for 10th at 143.
