Tyler heats up in 84-28 win over Cisco

Published 11:55 pm Saturday, October 13, 2012

Last year Cisco gave the Apaches all they could handle before Tyler pulled out a seven-point win.

TJC wanted nothing of that in 2012.

The Apaches broke out to a four-touchdown advantage in the first quarter and rolled to an 84-28 win over Cisco Junior College before 6,500 fans on Earl Campbell Field Saturday at Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium.

It was a perfect ending to a homecoming week of activities.

The win kept Tyler in the hunt for the Southwest Junior College Football Conference playoffs. TJC improved to 4-3 overall and 2-2 in  league play. Kilgore leads at 4-1, followed by Navaaro and Northeastern Oklahoma A&M at 3-1. Cisco and Blinn are 1-3, while Trinity Valley is 1-4. The top four teams earn playoff spots. Cisco is 2-5 overall.

In playing a little over two quarters, TJC quarterback Tyrik Rollison passed for 343 yards and three touchdowns. He also added a 12-yard TD dash. He threw just three passes in the second half as Lamar Carraway, who did not attempt a pass, took over at QB.

JaVante Mack hauled in eight catches for 158 yards and a TD,  while Jeremey Chappelle had five catches for 76 yards and two touchdowns.

Shaquille Murray-Lawrence, the leading Apache rusher with 110-yards on six carries, scored two touchdowns as well as Ryan Young and Leroy Dobbins. Carraway and DeVante Mays had the other TDs. Carraway also set up a TD with an 49-yard punt return.

Placekicker Santiago Escobar connected on all 12 extra points.

The defense had one of its better games as well as Will Coleman had a fumble recovery and Robert Zenon had an interception. Charleston Higginbotham had two near misses of interceptions.

Murray-Lawrence topped off the offensive onslaught with an 86-yard TD run that literally brought rain. As he was dashing toward the end zone, the heavens opened up and buckets of rain flooded Rose Stadium.

From the latter portions of the third quarter, the Apaches had basic handoffs, but still managed to find the end zone.

Khole Jackson led Cisco with seven catches for 66 yards. Marquis Elder also had an 84-yard kickoff return.
