TJC takes down Paris, 11-4

The Tyler Junior College Apache baseball team got back on track Tuesday, scoring an 11-4 win over the Paris Junior College Dragons at Mike Carter Field.

The Apaches (17-4) dropped a doubleheader to LSU-Eunice on Monday.



Gunnar Quick led the way with three hits and four RBIs. He had a double and scored two runs. Also, Zane Ancell had both a double and a triple, along with two RBIs.

Leadoff hitter Tim Hunter got on base four times with a hit and three walks. He added an RBI. Derek Clemons had a two-RBI double, while Jacob Hickman had a hit and scored two runs and Aaron Clemons had a single and scored three runs. Jared Pauley also added an RBI.

AJ Merkel pitched 4.1 innings for the Apaches. He struck out four. Chanz Holland got the win, going .2 innings and striking out three. Jace Campbell (two innings), Chandler Muckleroy (one) and Adan Ross (one) closed out the final innings.

Paris (7-22) was led by Ryan Robertson’s two-RBI double. Andrew Healey also had a double.

TJC, which is ranked No. 1 in NJCAA Division III, returns to play this weekend for a three-game conference series with Coastal Bend College at Mike Carter Field. The first game is 6 p.m. Saturday, followed by a doubleheader on Sunday. The first game of the DH is slated to begin at noon.

The Apache Ladies softball team (25-7, 5-1) gets back on the diamond Wednesday, hosting Northeast Texas Community College (11-15, 1-3) at Schwab Field on the Brook Hill School campus in Bullard.

The first game has a 1 p.m. start.

The Apache Ladies, are ranked No. 17 in the nation, also have a DH on Saturday, hosting Kilgore College. The first game is scheduled for 1 p.m.
