Texas College falls to McMurry, 63-6

ABILENE – McMurry returned two fumbles for touchdowns in the first quarter en route to a 63-6 win over the Texas College Steers on Saturday at Wilford Moore Stadium.

The Steers’ lone score came with 11:27 left in the game when quarterback Santonio Mapp found the end zone on a 4-yard dash. The extra point try was blocked.



Mapp led TC (0-3) in passing, hitting 8 of 17 for 105 yards. The top rushers were Mapp (19-31), Phillip Callier (7-30) and Corey Sherman (3-14).

Curtez Griffin led the Steers with five receptions for 38 yards while Myles Hill had two catches for 46 yards.

Quarterback BJ Ross led the War Hawks by rushing for 98 yards and a TD on eight attempts while hitting on 8 of 11 passing attempts for 120 yards and a TD.

Texas College has a bye next week before returning to action on Oct. 1 against Bacone College at Christus Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium. Kickoff on Earl Campbell Field is scheduled for noon.

McMurry (1-1) plays host to Langston on Sept. 24. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
