Oklahoma State quarterback Taylor Cornelius shined on the big stage for the third straight week and his performance against West Virginia earned him a special award.
Cornelius was named The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award National Player of the Week for the 12th week of the college football season, Cindy Smoak, SPORTyler executive director, announced Tuesday.
Cornelius, a graduate of Bushland High School, threw for 338 yards and five touchdowns on 30-of-46 passing and ran for 106 yards and a TD on 13 carries in the Cowboys’ 45-41 victory over No. 9 West Virginia. The senior’s touchdown toss to Tylan Wallace with 42 seconds left completed the comeback win.
Cornelius became just the third player in Big 12 history to have 300 yards passing, 100 yards rushing and five passing touchdowns in a game.
The senior quarterback also took home Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week honors as well as being named the Walter Camp Football Foundation National Offensive Player of the Week for his performance.
Cornelius joins previous weekly winners — Week 1: Mason Fine, quarterback, North Texas; Week 2: Laviska Shenault Jr., wide receiver, Colorado; Week 3: Alan Bowman, quarterback, Texas Tech; Week 4: Collin Johnson, wide receiver, Texas; Week 5: Eno Benjamin, running back, Arizona State; Week 6: Sam Ehlinger, quarterback, Texas; Week 7: Jace Sternberger, tight end, Texas A&M; Week 8: David Blough, quarterback, Purdue; Week 9: D’Eriq King, quarterback, Houston; Week 10: Ben Hicks, quarterback, SMU; and Week 11: Lil’Jordan Humphrey, wide receiver, Texas.
