When rivals hit the court, anything can happen.

And it did at Gus F. Taylor Gymnasium on Saturday as Jarvis Christian College upset Texas College in both ends of a basketball doubleheader on the TC campus.

In the first game, the Lady Bulldogs held off the Lady Steers for an 81-75 victory. In the men’s game, JCC took an 87-82 win in overtime.

The JCC women improved to 1-11 overall and 1-4 in Red River Athletic Conference play while the Lady Steers fell to 2-9 and 0-5. The JCC Bulldogs go to 2-9 and 2-3 with the Steers falling to 7-9 and 1-4.

The Texas College squads get back into action on Thursday, traveling to Hobbs, New Mexico, to meet University of the Southwest. Games are set for 5:30 p.m. (women) and 7:30 p.m. (men). The Bulldog squads will meet Paul Quinn on Thursday in Dallas.

With temperatures falling, Taylor Gym was packed with fans.

WOMEN

Jarvis broke out to an 18-point lead, 37-19, but the Lady Steers fought back, moving to within 57-55 in the second half. However, TC could not maintain the momentum.

Brianna Page led the Hawkins college with 33 points while Daeja Monroe hit for 17.

Four Lady Steers were in double figures — Dyneisha Bailey (17), Taylor Crabtree (12), Ahshaki White (12) and Tylerite Jazyme Hicks (11).

Taylor had a double-double by adding 10 rebounds. Bailey had seven boards. Crabtree led the Lady Steers with four steals and Rylan Rogers had three assists.

MEN

The Steers and Bulldogs put on an entertaining show.

It was close throughout. The Bulldogs actually celebrated twice — at the end of regulation and after overtime.

Jarvis was leading 74-73 as the clock was winding down in regulation. It was so loud in the gym, no one heard the officials’ whistle when Blake Williams was fouled driving to the basket.

After clearing the floor, Williams missed the first free throw attempt, but nailed the second with .3 seconds on the clock, forcing OT.

In OT, the Bulldogs scored 13 points to the Steers’ eight for the win. The JCC fans celebrated again.

Four Bulldogs were in double figures, led by Chris Adams’ 17 points. He was followed by McShane Wyatt (15), Charles James (14) and Kobe Wrice (10).

Christian Bryant led TC with 19 points with Trevon Donnell adding 13. Tristian Egans and Robert Lester each added nine points.

Marquis Webb and Lester paced TC with six boards while Bryant had four assists and Donnell had four steals.

Timothy Thompson led the Bulldogs with 11 rebounds. He had nine points. Wrice had eight boards.
