Apaches soccer remains unbeaten with 2-1 win

PARIS — The No. 1-ranked Tyler Junior College soccer squad stayed unbeaten with a 2-1 victory over the Paris Junior College Dragons on Wednesday in a Region XIV conference match.
TJC improved to 7-0 on the season and 5-0 in conference.
“I thought we played pretty well,” TJC coach Steve Clements said. “We had a lot of opportunities in the first half, but we just didn’t finish.”
The Apaches outshot Paris 20-2 and had five corner kicks to the Dragons’ one.
TJC took a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute on Nazeem Bartman’s penalty kick. Paris tied the contest at 1-1 12 minutes into the second half.
With time running out, Fernando Castellanos kicked the ball toward the Paris goal and it bounded off a Dragons player into the goal in the 88th minute for the 2-1 victory.
The Apaches play their first home game on Friday as they take on Richland College at 7 p.m. at Pat Hartley Soccer Complex.
The Dragons fell to 3-2 overall and 0-1 in league play. Paris plays host to Coastal Bend at 4 p.m. Friday.
