CARTHAGE – Carthage Bulldogs quarterback Kason Davis flung four scoring slings, while runner Keaontay Ingram hoofed for three touchdowns as Carthage gored Gilmer 55-37 Saturday night in a War Game before two state ranked and unvanquished foes.
Gilmer, fueled by quarterback Aaron “Poppy” Brown’s three touchdown throws, gallantly stormed back from a seemingly insurmountable 49-17 deficit in the third quarter to close within 49-37 with 11:48 remaining in the contest.
But Ingram’s tackle-breaking 16-yard touchdown dash with 8:31 left somewhat sealed No. 3 Gilmer’s fate.
The No. 5 Bulldogs ascended to 3-0 as Davis heaved TDs of 9, 28, 43 and 23 yards – three of them to Dee Bowens.
Ingram’s first pair of scoring jaunts went for 2 and 51 yards as Gilmer tumbled to 3-1, suffering only its second loss in its last 35 games.
