Apaches roll over Kilgore

KILGORE — Randy Price accounted for more than 200 total yards with five touchdowns to lead No. 17 Tyler Junior College past No. 18 Kilgore College, 56-24, on Saturday night at R.E. St. John Memorial Stadium.
The Waco native completed 6 of 11 passes for 111 yards and three touchdowns to go along with 13 carries for 129 yards and two scores, helping improve the Apaches to 2-0 on the season. He led 21-point outbursts in the first and third quarters against the Rangers, who fell to 0-2 on the year.
Kilgore running back Eddie Smith stepped off 156 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries.
The Apaches pulled away in the second half, using a 14-yard scoring run by Terrance Taylor (finished the night with two scores) and Price’s second TD pass to take a 35-10 lead with 8:50 left in the third. The touchdown pass came after TJC’s Ryheem Walker recovered a KC fumbled kickoff.
TJC defensive back Caleb Williams made an acrobatic interception on the Rangers’ next series.
TJC took a 21-10 lead into the break after scoring the game’s first 21 points, all in the first quarter. The Apaches finished the half with almost 200 total yards, 129 on the ground.
Price put TJC ahead 7-0 with 12:57 left in the first quarter on a 6-yard run, capping a drive started on Kilgore’s 39. Price also threw a 40-yard touchdown strike to Joshua Reynolds with 1:27 left in the quarter. Reynolds finished with two touchdown grabs.
Kilgore dominated the second quarter other than the scoreboard, getting a 13-yard pass from quarterback Tanner Tausch to Ladaedrix Payton and a 36-yard field goal by Luis Sanchez.
TJC freshman receiver Solomon McGinty, a key member of Navasota’s Class 3A Division II state championship football team, suffered a broken leg during the half and left the field on stretcher.
