Robert Eugene “Gene” Salmons passed away on Friday August 30,2018 in Houston at the age of 68. He was born January 3, 1950 to the late Jess and Bonnie Jean Salmons. He was retired from the Texas and Pacific Railroad.
Gene was raised and lived most of his life in Mineola, Texas. He graduated from Mineola High School in 1968, where he earned honors as an allstate football player. Gene attended Texas Christian University on a football scholarship and later Stephen F. Austin University.
Gene was passionate about living life to the fullest. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, traveler, and an accomplished cook. In his later life he enjoyed nature photography and being a grandfather; “Papa Gene”.
Gene is survived by his son Robert Eugene Salmons, Jr. and daughter-in-law Leila, his daughter Jessica Salmons, and granddaughters Alexine, Jesa, and Isabella. He is also survived by his sister and brother in law, Virginia and Paul Low and his nephews Peyton and Chris Low and his uncle, John McCreary.
A graveside service and internment of his ashes will be held at a later date at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Mineola. If desired, memorial donations may be made to The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration at www.theaftd.org.
