Business Beat: Tyler sees business closures, anticipates openings

Cinnaholic, a gourmet cinnamon roll shop, opened in December 2020 in Tyler at The Village at Cumberland Park. On Tuesday, the local eatery announced it is now permanently closed.

There have been multiple business closures, along with some openings and expansions, in the Tyler area over the last month.

Cinnaholic

Cinnaholic, a gourmet cinnamon roll shop located at The Village in Cumberland Park, has permanently closed as Sept. 22, according to a Facebook post from owner Jessica Gandy.

The store, situated at 8934 South Broadway Avenue, Suite 420, served its last customers until 8 p.m. on its final day.

Gandy, who was a loyal customer before taking over the business, shared the news with a heavy heart, revealing that the closure follows the recent death of her son. She described the decision as a difficult one to make.

Originally announced for closure in February 2023 due to location challenges, the shop was reopened by Gandy in September 2023. It celebrated its one-year anniversary just earlier this month.

Thee Olde Apothecary

The shop features organic herbs, teas, and spices, along with a variety of other products such as gift items and stoneware bread bowls. The experience of walking into their shop at Canton Trade Days is one-of-a-kind, and now they’ve announced a second location closer.

Their partnership with Painted Tree Boutiques will be located at Cumberland Village shopping center in Tyler. The grand opening is set for mid-December.

With over 250 varieties of herbs, spices, and teas, they offer a vast selection of loose-leaf teas and culinary or medicinal herbs and spices. They also specialize in custom blends, catering to individual flavor preferences and needs.

Once open, Painted Tree Boutiques will be marketplace filled with hundreds of small businesses.

Scoop and Grind

Scoop and Grind, a new ice cream and coffee shop, has just opened its doors in Chapel Hill, located on Highway 64 East.

Offering reasonably priced coffee, Blue Bell ice cream, and even dessert cakes, the shop has quickly become a local favorite. The staff is known for their friendly service, and customers rave about the Peachy Peach in a freshly made waffle cone.

American Red Cross East Texas Chapter

The American Red Cross East Texas Chapter has completed a major remodel of its office building after 40 years of service. The building is located at 320 E. Rieck Rd. in Tyler.

Mr. Taco Jr.

Mr. Taco Jr. Tortillas Tamales & Chips is located at 303 Hwy 110 in Whitehouse. The business looks forward to serving the local community with fresh, homemade tortillas and popular Tex-Mex menu items.

Customers are encouraged to place their orders as the tamale season begins. The new location aims to serve the Whitehouse and South Tyler communities more conveniently.

Dunkin’ Donuts

Dunkin’ is set to celebrate the grand opening of its new location at 5030 Troup Hwy, adjacent to Walmart, in about two weeks, officials say, but no exact date has been announced. The event will feature giveaways and exclusive grand opening deals, creating excitement for the local community.

In addition to the upcoming festivities, Dunkin’ is also hiring. They are seeking enthusiastic individuals who have a passion for people and are eager to help build a vibrant community.

Detailing World Tyler

Sabrina McIntosh and her husband have opened a new store, Detailing World, located on the South-Southeast Loop in Tyler. The store specializes in car care products tailored for both professional detailers and DIY enthusiasts.

The auto detailing service is located at 1700 S. Southeast Loop 323, Suite 402 in Tyler.

FireFish Sushi Bar & Asian Bistro

FireFish Sushi Bar & Asian Bistro is set to open its doors at 3709 Troup Hwy, Suite 700, in Tyler, TX, with a grand opening anticipated for January.

This new venture is the result of a partnership between GoFish’s ex-Nobu Sushi chef and Steve Weng, combining over 30 years of experience in Asian cuisine to offer the best sushi and Asian Bistro food in the area.

GoFish has been a staple in the community since 2017, earning recognition as “Best in Town” in 2023 and being selected as one of the Top 100 Restaurants in Texas. Chef Stevenley brings 12 years of experience from Nobu, while Steve Weng contributes over 15 years of expertise in Asian Bistro cuisine.

Fancy Donuts

Fancy Donuts is set to open soon at 2101 S SE Loop 323 in Tyler. The location will feature a range of donuts, breakfast items, coffee drinks, and boba tea. The shop will offer extended hours.

Dairy Queen

The Dairy Queen located at 3250 W. Gentry Pkwy., near the Village at Cumberland Park shopping center in Tyler opened Friday after suffering damage from a storm in April of 2024.

Nip It Golf

Nip It Golf, an indoor golf center, announced its sudden closure last week.

The center had a location in Longview since 2020 and opened its Tyler space in June 2024. Both facilities are now closed due “to economic pressures,” the owners said in a Facebook post Thursday.

The center thanked its support base in East Texas.
