DALLAS — Jerry Dale Fitzgerald passed away unexpectedly in his sleep, at his home in Dallas, on March 10.
Born in Tyler on August 14, 1959, Jerry graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1977, and from Stephen F. Austin University with a degree in Film/Video Production.
He was proud of being an Eagle Scout, and of being inducted into Mensa, the high I.Q. organization, as a teenager. Later in life, he was a regular blood donor to blood banks in the Dallas area for 20 consecutive years.
As an actor and playwright using the stage name Gerald Fitzgerald, Jerry worked with the Pegasus Theatre of Dallas, Rover Dramaworks, MainStage Irving-Las Colinas, Pocket Sandwich Theatre, and the Rockwall Community Playhouse. He acted in dozens of stage productions, several plays he wrote were produced, and he was involved as a crew member on numerous feature films including Robocop, This Side of Heaven, and After The Rain. Jerry was a member of the Dramatists Guild of America.
Jerry was preceded in death by his mother, Eddie Ruth Loyd Fitzgerald and father, Truman D “Blue” Fitzgerald.
He is survived by a brother, Randy ‘Randall Fitzgerald of northern California; a sister, Jonna Fitzgerald Boersma of Tyler, and her husband Garrett Boersma; and numerous cousins, countless friends and extended family.
Jerry will be interred in Rose Hill Cemetery in Tyler. Due to the COVID 19 pandemic, no funeral service will be held at this time.
