TYLER — Services for Dorothy E. Gandy (MawMaw) will be held at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Hwy, Tyler, TX 75703 on Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at 2:00 pm. with the Rev. Dr. Ron Klingsick officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Special music will be performed by Floyd and Sally Williford.
Our loving Mother and MawMaw went to be with Jesus on Thursday, Nov 21, 2024 while at Hospice of East Texas in Tyler, TX. She has been looking forward to this day to be with Jesus and her loved ones that have gone before her. We know that Jesus and our Daddy (PawPaw) along with many loved ones were waiting for her at the pearly gates of Heaven. What a glorious day and celebration!
She was born February 3, 1932 in Roxton, TX to Alvin and Elizabeth Merritt. She was a born again Christian and a member of Arp Emmanuel Baptist Church. She walked daily with Jesus. She was married for 66 years to W. I. (Bill) Gandy, the love of her life. She was employed at Kmart for 25 years. Mrs. Gandy was a very hardworking lady and very compassionate, loving, kind, and always sharing the sweetest smile.
She dearly loved her family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Her most cherished moments was spending time with them. She will be missed dearly and we will meet her again in Heaven with our Precious Lord and Savior.
She was preceded in death by her parents and 10 brothers and sisters. Brothers were Cleo Merritt, Lawson Merritt, Morris Merritt, Homer Merritt, Ray Merritt and Eldon Merritt. Sisters were Nellie Hedger, Lois Fox, and Earline Stringer. She is survived by two children: Doyle Gandy and wife, Jayne, of Tyler, TX and Gwenitta Swinney and husband, David, of Arp,TX.
She is also survived by: 7 grandchildren: Stephanie and Wayne Keller of Troup, TX; Mitzi Abernathy of Tyler; Melissa and Jeremy Mullens of Tyler,TX; Will and Monica Gandy of Tyler,TX; Stacie and Mark Everett of Arp, TX; Julie Swinney of Arp,TX; and Matthew and Jana Swinney of Whitehouse, TX, and 15 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be the great-grandsons: Bryce Everett, Travis Abernathy, Tucker Abernathy, Junah Mullens, Seth Keller, and Kyler Keller.
A special thanks to the nurses and caretakers at UTHealth East Texas of Tyler, TX and Hospice of East Texas, Tyler, TX in the care of our precious mother and MawMaw
Burial will follow at Williams Cemetery located at 16342 State Highway 64E, Tyler, TX.
