PALESTINE — Funeral services for Billy M. Brown, age 93 of Palestine will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, October 21, 2023 at Southside Baptist Church, Palestine, Texas with Rev. David English officiating. Burial will be held at 3:00 P.M. at Sabine Cemetery in Lindale, Texas. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M Friday, October 20, 2023 at Bailey & Foster Funeral Home.
Mr. Brown passed away Tuesday October 17, 2023 in Carthage. He was born June 25, 1930 in Lindale, Texas to Thomas Jefferson Brown and Emma Lou Kennedy Brown. Mr. Brown graduated from Lindale High School in 1949 and enrolled in Tyler Junior College September 1949. He earned his diploma in junior accounting and graduated class of 1950. His first job out of school in 1950 was with Skidmore Sundries in Tyler, Texas. He was drafted into the Army from March 1951 to March 1953. Upon being discharged from the Army he took a job as Bookkeeper at Peoples National Bank in Tyler, Texas. He left that bank in 1961 as an Assistant Cashier in the loan department and Junior Officer. He then went to Farmers and Merchants State Bank in Athens, Texas in June 1961 where he was Assistant Vice President and Loan Officer.
In December of 1961 he married Dorothy Ann Weaver. He was promoted to Vice President and left the bank in 1966 to take a job at East Texas National Bank in Palestine, Texas, where he worked as Loan Officer, Vice President and Director, he left East Texas National Bank in 1982 after 16 years of service. Mr. Brown took a position at First National Bank as a Loan Officer, Vice President and Director. He retired July 21, 1995 as Senior Vice President and continued to serve on the board of directors until the 18th day of November 1999.
Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Dorothy Ann Brown, sisters Jamie Moore and Martha Henbest, a brother Ray Brown. He is survived by his daughter, Robin Thompson and husband Curt of Longville, LA., sons Thomas Mark Weaver and wife Kelly of Henderson, TX., and William Alan Brown and wife Stacy of Carthage, TX., sister Dorothy “Dot” Niehaus, four grandchildren, three great grandchildren.
Mr. Brown was a member of Southside Baptist Church, Kiwanis International and followed Lindale High School Athletics.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be Craig Webb, Cole Thompson, Jay Mitchell, Tommy Brown, Sam Butler, and Douglas Miller. Honorary pallbearers are Hubert G. Aaron, James Niehaus and David Carder.
