No. 22 Apaches rally past Lee, 94-90, in double OT

BAYTOWN — Tyler Junior College rallied from 11 points down in the second half to force overtime and TiAndre Jackson-Young hit all six of his free throws in the second OT as the No. 22 Apaches defeated Lee College 94-90 on Friday.

TJC improved to 13-1 on the season and 3-1 in the Region XIV Conference. The Rebels fell to 7-8 and 1-3.



The Apaches play host to Blinn College on Monday, while Lee meets Trinity Valley in Athens. Both games have 7 p.m. scheduled starts.

TJC led 38-29 at halftime, but the Rebels scored the first 13 points of the second half and eventually took an 11-point lead.

Brian Warren made two free throws with 4 seconds left in regulation to force OT at 71-71. The teams traded baskets to eventually go to the second OT tied 79-79.

The Apaches fell behind 82-79 on a 3-pointer by Collin Means to begin the second extra period before eventually taking the lead for good, 89-87, on a basket by Cameron Johnson. Jackson- Young then hit four free throws in the final seconds to seal the win.

Five Apaches scored in double figures with Jackson-Young leading the way with 24 points, 20 in the second and overtime.

Desmond Balentine was next with 14 points, followed by Johnson (11), Warren (12) and Edra Luster (10).

J’Von McCormick led Lee with 31 points with Means adding 25.

NOTES: The Apache Ladies (8-6, 2-2) return to conference on Saturday, traveling to Kilgore to meet the Lady Rangers (9-4, 3-1) at Masters Gymnasium. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.
