EL PASO, Texas (AP) — West Texas police say a 53-year-old man tried to secure fraudulent loans by obtaining personal information from applicants who attended a series of fake job fairs he organized.
El Paso police said Jose Luz Salcido Jr. advertised on Craigslist that he was seeking applicants for credit services. The El Paso Times reports he rented space at office buildings and hotels to hold the job fairs. After a short interview he told candidates they were hired and asked for bank account numbers and other sensitive information.
Salcido, who used the alias David Hernandez, is from Mineral Wells, about 50 miles west of Fort Worth.
He was arrested on a theft charge and booked into the El Paso County jail on a $5,000 bond. He was no longer in custody Thursday.
