April 10: Lon Morris College alumnus K.T. Oslin wins Academy of Country Music Awards in 1989

K.T. Oslin was at the height of popularity when the Academy of Country Awards ceremony took place on this date in 1989.

Oslin, who attended Lon Morris College in Jacksonville, was named Top Female Vocalist and “This Woman” was named the Album of the Year.



The videos to her her songs  “Hold Me” and “I’ll Always Come Back” were up for Video of the Year award.

Also at the ceremony:

  • Tyler native Johnny Gimble was a nominee for Top Fiddle Player; 
  • The Oak Ridge Boys, featuring Lamar County native Duane Allen, were up for Top Vocal Group; 
  • Rodney Crowell, who attended Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, was a nominee for Album of the Year (“Diamonds & Dirt”), Single of the Year (“After All This Time”) and Song of the Year as a songwriter (“After All This Time”).
