A shooting Friday afternoon left a man injured and Tyler police searching for the gunman.

Police were dispatched to an apartment complex at 710 S. Kennedy Ave. just before noon on Friday for a disturbance in progress. Once officers arrived, they found 19-year-old Gregory Rolling with a gunshot wound to his head.

Detective Andy Erbaugh said Rolling was initially combative with officers but was quickly subdued and taken to Mother Frances Hospital, where he was treated for a gunshot to the forehead that exited from the top portion of his head.

Erbaugh said the injury did not appear to be life threatening.

Residents of the area said Rolling ran from his apartment down the street holding his head.

"I heard all of this commotion, and I looked out and saw (Rolling) running from here to there, shouting he'd been shot," 79-year-old resident Jerri Hall said. "They shot him in the head."

Erbaugh said Rolling told officers on the way to the hospital that a Hispanic man about 6 feet tall and between 190 and 200 pounds shot him, but witnesses told detectives that several black males with guns were seen in Rolling's home at the time of the shooting.

"We are questioning the witnesses and trying to determine what exactly happened," he said.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the Tyler Police Department at 902-531-1000 or the Tyler/Smith County Crimestoppers at 903-597-2833.
